Letter to my MPP by Mary VanderVleuten

To whom it may concern,
If Mr. Ford is looking to make the best use of our finances, I suggest that he look towards the work and results of Independent Facilitators.

In my limited experience, as a parent of a disabled adult I have finally met someone who has been so helpful to my son.  He is not even her client! He is the fiance of the facilitator's client.

My son has spent many years at home ( not that he wasn't doing anything as he is an artist and has been busy in that aspect) but he had a great need to be more socially integrated.  The Independent Facilitator managed to get him part time employment which has been a god-send for him. He now has a few dollars of discretionary income at his disposal. ( One must understand that the amount is not large because the $10,000 yearly income through ODSP barely pays to keep him alive so the approximate $400 a month discretionary money is not huge).
The fact remains that my son is now paying taxes!  Amazing! He is also putting some money back into the ODSP coffers ( They claw-back some of his new income) .
So this endeavour by the facilitator now has her client working part-time and her client's fiance also employed making a better income and feeling positive.  The ODSP system is receiving some financial benefit and the tax system is receiving a benefit! WIN! WIN! WIN!
    What could be better?
Please do not do away with funding for Independent Facilitation as that would be a loss for all citizens.  Let's be fiscally responsible and retain Independent Facilitation!
                Respectfully,
                Mary VanderVleuten
