When my son Hilaire graduated high school back in 2002 he had no suitable tools to be successful as someone with a dissability in the community. No prospects for secondary education and no job in order to gain personal growth & independence. He was also struggling with major developmental & behavioral issues.
It was with great relief when the family was introduced to independent facilitation group and after attending some workshops that we were able to find a good fit and worker there to assist with some counselling and planning and moving Hilaire to some direction & discussing his needs and preferences.
He was able to feel comfortable speaking with person assigned and expressing himself, his fears and what he would like his life to be. We are grateful for their support & hoping that continued funding be available to assist families like us.
